Famous 1078 Gallery Moves to Park Avenue
The famous 1078 Gallery that was once on 820 Broadway has now decided to move to a new location on Park Avenue in Chico. They now have more space to provide theatre classes, modern literature, and house visual art than ever. Once they decided not to renew their original lease, the Board’s President Erin Wade wanted to improve 1078 Gallery’s impact on the art community.
The 1078 Gallery has decided to move to a larger office on Park Avenue, and of course, they will ensure that their art and literature stays safe from pests on this new property. With an already well-established art gallery and literary hangout, this move has made room some even bigger plans for the art center.
It was founded in 1981 at 1078 Humboldt Road in Chico; it expanded into a non-profit art gallery just five years later. From its creation, it has been a collective and alternative exhibition space for local artists. While there have been a few moves along the way, it has never ceased to be an open and creative space. It features both cultural and geographic diversity through exhibitions, performances, and art installations. From music and visual arts to film and various productions, all forms of art are welcome at 1078 Gallery.
If you want to support local art, especially 1078 Gallery in Chico, head over to their fundraiser event at the Chico Women’s Club on January 20, 2018. Because 1078 is a non-profit gallery that is run by artists in the area, they need to raise money for this radiant organization to expand as necessary. The fundraiser event will help to ensure that 1078 Gallery can obtain a Use Permit from the city, which means that they can have amplified music on the premises. While a lot of work is involved in the expansion, 1078 Gallery remains dedicated to the community and becoming established at their new location on Park Avenue.
Whether or not you opt to attend the event, you can donate or become a member at any time. The 1078 Gallery has received exemplary status from the California Arts Council and has also received various grants from the National Endowment for the Arts organization. Because these gifts, as well as local donations, are funded in part by these incredible artistic agencies and the city’s art commission, it is important to show love for your local artists.
1078 Gallery’s move is not only crucial to their ability to create a larger creative space, but it helps to maintain the most necessary elements to retain art in all forms in the Chico community.
