This location is significant for both the display of elegance of the early Victorian era mansion and the beautiful scenery. The hall was completed in 1868 and was the home of John and Annie Bidwell. These two are historical figures for the Chico, CA area because John was at the forefront of the great gold rush in California. He was ahead of the times and was one of the first people to discover the gold hidden in the landscape. The Bidwell’s not only were known for their gold rush findings but also the display of wealth and social class in the area.

 

Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park

The Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park has many features tourist or visitors can enjoy including special installation exhibits, touring the mansion itself, and exploring the general store. The guided tours are available Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and are led by guides that are very knowledgeable. There are accommodations for those guest who are unable to make it to the top level of the mansion and have a video tour available. You will hear about the legacy of the Bidwell?s and the contributions they gave to the State of California. The property also consists of mature landscaping that is as old as the mansion itself. The guided tour is something not to miss out. It is truly a beautiful trip to include in the tour. One of the most exciting features Bidwell Mansion offers is wedding location rental. This backdrop for weddings will set the romantic scene a bride and groom are looking for. They have beautiful landscaping and have three separate areas on the premises that would be perfect for a spring/summer wedding. They have the back lawn, side lawn and the gazebo that can all accommodate for different size wedding parties.

 

Depending on the time of year in which you visit, the Bidwell Mansion has some pretty incredible events. For instance, during Christmas time, you can enjoy a beautiful light show that is on display both in the mansion and the grounds. If you are thinking of a place to bring your kids, they also have it. They have different junior explorer activities, which would be an excellent way to get your little ones out of the house and start exploring.
