History of the Plaza
John Bidwell deeded the land to the town in 1872 retaining the right that a county courthouse was to be built there. Since then the square has undergone some changes and upgrades that make it the place for events today.
When originally planned, the square was lined with Elm trees that led to a raised center fountain. Since then the fountain was replaced with a gazebo, the gazebo replaced by a fountain again and the trees removed. Tables and benches have been added throughout the plaza for people to sit and enjoy playing chess, reading, eating lunch, or people watching.
Today there are many amenities added that make it the place to be for events.
City Plaza is open from 5:00 am-2:00 am and host many different events throughout the year as well as a place for the community to gather where you can play chess, read, enjoy lunch, or just people watch.
